Most English Language Learning classes will be taught in-person.

Foundational learning assistance (FLA) funded programs will not open to new applicants for the Fall 2024 term as there is no funding available for new students entering in September 2024.

If you are an Alberta Resident you may be entitled to funding to support your studies.

The Government of Alberta Foundational Learning Assistance (formerly "Alberta Works" or "Learner Income Support") is a financial support program managed by the Government of Alberta to support Alberta residents access adult education to help them towards more sustainable employment.

How To Apply

English For Academic Purposes (EAP)

Canadian citizens can apply for the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program. Funding is subject to eligibility requirements.

Term Term Start & End Dates When To Apply
Fall 2024 September 3, 2024 to December 18, 2024

Applications are closed for Fall 2024 programs.

Winter 2025
January 9, 2025 to April 29, 2025

Applications open on September 26, 2024 for fee-payers only with a paper application. Government of Alberta funding is unavailable for new students for Winter 2025 programs.

Spring 2025 May 6, 2025 to August 22, 2025

Applications open on January 22, 2025 for fee-payers only with a paper application. Government of Alberta funding is unavailable for new students for Spring 2025 programs.

 

To apply, you will need to:

  • Complete a paper application and pay the non-refundable application fee. You can download the paper application by clicking here or you can visit the Welcome Centre to complete your application in person.
  • If you're applying to the English for Academic Purposes program, you'll have to write the EAP placement test at Bow Valley College. We will send you information about testing after you apply.
  • Check the Foundational Learning Assistance page for more information about the process to apply for Foundational Learning Assistance funding.

Are you an international student who wants to study English? Check out our International ELL program.

In the International ELL program, you'll learn listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. This program is certified by the Languages Canada Quality Assurance Scheme.

If you require academic accommodations, contact Learner Success Services four months prior to the start of scheduled classes to set-up your academic accommodation plan.

We will make reasonable efforts to provide suitable accommodation, however, there is no guarantee that services will be available and it is possible that your start date may be deferred to provide the accommodation.

While the college attempts to facilitate all accommodation requests, there is a current shortage of sign language interpreters.
